1. Who are we?
Strong Foodie is operated by Merdan Koc (sole proprietorship, Dutch Chamber of Commerce / KvK number 94957630), registered at Tweede Helmersstraat 103 2, 1054 CG Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The website is accessible at strongfoodie.com.
2. What data do we collect?
We collect the following data:
- Email addresses of newsletter subscribers (via Substack, strongfoodie.substack.com)
- User account data (name, email) for logged-in users (via Firebase)
- If you log in with Google or Apple, they share your name and email address with us. With Apple you can choose to hide your email address. We never receive your Google or Apple password.
- Your reviews, spots and wishlist, if you add them (via Firebase). Your wishlist is only visible to you, unless you choose to share it.
- Your date of birth, to check that you are 18 or older. Only you and Strong Foodie can see it.
- The photos, videos, highlights and lists you post, and the messages you send in the app's chat (via Firebase).
- Who you block. This is private: other members can't see who you blocked.
- Reports you send about content or members, so Strong Foodie can handle them.
- In the app: crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics (what went wrong, the device model and the iOS version), without your name or email, so we can fix bugs.
- If you claim a place as its owner: your name, your role and the business email or phone number you give, so we can check the claim. Only Strong Foodie sees them. Your replies to reviews are public. All of this is deleted when you delete your account.
- When you search for a place to add, the text you type is sent to Photon (komoot, Germany) to look it up in OpenStreetMap, and in the app to Apple Maps. To find the opening hours of the place you picked, its location is sent to Photon and to Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation, United Kingdom). Your name and email are not sent.
- Anonymous visitor statistics, and counts of how often places and pages are opened, without your name or account
We don't sell your data and don't use it for advertising.
3. What do we use cookies for?
We use cookies for:
- Functionality: Keeping track of whether you are logged in
- Newsletter card: On your device only, how many place pages you opened and whether you closed the newsletter card, so it shows once and not on your first visit. Nothing is sent to us.
- Analytics: Anonymously tracking visitor numbers
- Newsletter: Substack can see if emails are opened. See the privacy policy of Substack.
Partner links. Some Reserve or Book buttons are partner links, for example to Booking.com or GetYourGuide, marked as such under the button. When you tap one, that partner may set its own cookies on its own website to see that you came from Strong Foodie; its own privacy policy applies there. Strong Foodie only counts how often the button is tapped, without cookies and without anything personal.
4. Your rights (GDPR)
As an EU resident you have the right to:
- View, correct or delete your data
- Withdraw your consent for cookies
- Object to the processing of your data
You can make your account private, and delete your spots, reviews, highlights or your whole account yourself, in the app or on your account page. Send an email to info@strongfoodie.com for questions about your data.
5. Refusing or deleting cookies
You can decline cookies via the cookie banner at the bottom of the page. You can also use your browser settings to delete or block cookies.
6. Changes
This policy may be updated. The most recent version will always be available on this page.
